1840s many artists and writers stayed here, notably Robert Louis
Stevenson, who scattered anecdotes of the inn throughout his novels.
Napoléon the third and the empress Eugenie came in 1860 to
purchase some paintings.

Fontainebleau
Le Montijo

The mansion, now a hotel, has a formal courtyard entrance with high
iron grille and pillars crowned by black eagles. It is in
Fontainebleau's highest priced hotel. This cozy restaurant was once a
piano bar. It is decorated in red paisleys with small intimate tables.
The cuisine is light dinner suggestions not 3 course meals.
*Enjoy a drink before dinner at Napoleon III style piano bar.
Le Caveau des Ducs
24 Rue de Ferrare
01-60-22-05-05
Four magnificent vaults dated from the 17th century decorate the
dinning halls. This reasonably priced restaurant is a former cellar. It
was built by the same masons who laid the cobblestones of rue de
Ferrare just outside. The food is simple, but the atmosphere is
dramatic with wood and flickering candles.

Le François 1er
3 Rue Royale

Considered a premier dining choice in Fontainebleau, this restaurant
has Louis XIII decor, wine-making memorabilia and walls that are
believed to be 200 years old. In summer there is a terrace overlooking
the chateau and the cour des Adieux.
Napoléon
9 Rue Grande
01-60-39-50-50
This former post office, close to the palace, is appreciated by the
locals. The pastel colored rooms in modern furniture and marble baths
look over the terraces or the indoor patio—sophisticated but less
country atmosphere
Note: The Franklin Bistro in Fontainebleau has also been highly recommended by locals.
Vaux le Vicomte
Le Table Saint-Just
Rue de la Liberation, in nearby village of Vaux-le-Pénil
01-60-52-09-09
Guests who dine here are charmed. The original masonry from the 17th
century farmhouse is still intact, including artfully crafted oaken
beams. It's a fun dinner spot after visiting the chateau.
Provins
Hostellerie Aux Vieux Ramparts
3 Rue Couverte
01-64-08-94-00
Just as the name suggests the restaurant is within the old town walls
(or ramparts). It is possible to dine outdoors on pleasant evenings.
Otherwise, the half timber 16th century restaurant is a delight.

Quat' Saisons
44 rue du Val

This restaurant is highly recommended by the Pierre Deux Paris Country source book for Ile de France.
Moret sur Loing
Le Pont du Loup
14 rue Pienture Sisley
01-60-70-43-05
This restaurant is right on the banks of the Loing and is the epitome
of a lovely country restaurant. One sits at cozy tables with open
windows and doors overlooking the expanse of the lawn with the banks of
the Loing just beyond. It is charming, delightful and fun. The
wife of the owner is the chef. She is retired from the Cordon Bleu
school of cooking.

Burron Marlotte
Restaurant Bistro Brocante
5-7 Rue Murger
01-64-45-64-43
This is a fun bistro that is, as its name states, inside rooms that
could be an antique store. It's cozy and bustling with an upbeat group
of locals and students. It is located on one of the central streets of
the country town of Burron Marlotte.
Noissy sur École
Auvers Galant
This elegant restaurant is in the center of Noissy-sur-Éecole.
It is recognizable from the road with boxes of flowered Geraniums along
the front of the building. The inside is intimate with candlelight and
smart tables in a cozy atmosphere with delicious food.
Montiguy sur Loing
La Vanue Rouge
This is a country restaurant set directly on the banks of the
École. Its dramatic location with tree bows trailing into the
river is fun on warm nights. On rainy evenings, it looses much of its
seasonal appeal.
Varreddes
Auberge du Cheval Blanc
55 Rue Victor Clariet
01-64-33-18-03
This restaurant is an art lover's delight. The walls are decorated with
paintings of artists from the Barbizon school: Bulgari, Corot, Decamp,
